Hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association (ABHTA) and the Ministry of Tourism. The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Awards will recognize high-achieving tourism professionals who have through their steadfast efforts contributed to the betterment of Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism product over the last 12 months.

Nominees and Winners will be recognized and celebrated in the presence of Government officials and industry professionals at the Gala Presentation Dinner at Sandals Grande Antigua on Sunday 11th December 2022 at 7:00pm. Tourism partners are encouraged to attend and dress in bright colours for a Festive Night!

This year’s tourism awards will recognise industry partners in the following categories:

  12. Lifetime Achievement Award

Award categories were open for nominations from the private and public sector tourism businesses through the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association and the Ministry of Tourism.

Nominations were judged by a skilled panel of tourism industry executives.

Category 1: ABHTA EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR
This category is open to Hotels and Associate members. The recipient of this award can come from any department in your business.  He/she should be an excellent role model to his/her fellow employees.  This person should demonstrate a positive attitude towards work and have been in the industry/within your employ for at least three years.  He/she should be ambitious and show proof of personal development.

ABHTA EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR WINNER – WENDEL RICHARDS (SANDALS GRANDE ANTIGUA)

Category 2: ABHTA SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR
This category is open to Hotels and Associate members. This award will go to a supervisor from any department who has shown outstanding leadership skills.  This person should be able to motivate his/her team to achieve positive results for his/her property.  Examples of the impact of this person’s leadership on the overall hotel operation should be given.

ABHTA SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR WINNER – PATRICE GEORGE (MILL REEF CLUB)

Category 3:  RISING STAR 

This category is open to Hotel and Associate Members.  A young professional who demonstrates leadership, and commitment. This individual works tirelessly behind the scenes, going the extra mile to make an outstanding contribution to his/her company. It is their commitment which makes for an exceptional guest experience. These rising stars are dedicated with a strong commitment to excellence.

RISING STAR OF THE YEAR WINNER – KACY ST. JOHN (HERMITAGE BAY RESORT)

Category 4: YOUNG HOTELIER OF THE YEAR
This category is open to Hotels only. The individual must be a true role model and an example to follow for young people entering the industry.  He/she should have demonstrated outstanding career achievement through self-development.  An expert in his/her field, the person should have demonstrated strong leadership abilities and the power to motivate others.  A candidate likely to become a leader in this country’s hotel industry.

YOUNG HOTELIER OF THE YEAR WINNER – C. JOHN ROBERTS (BLUE WATERS RESORT & SPA)

Category 5: YOUNG CHEF OF THE YEAR

This category is open to Hotel and Associate Members. This award goes to aspiring chefs such as Senior Cooks, Supervisor Cooks, Pantry Maids and Line Cooks, who have worked for at least 3 years in the industry.  Nominees must be hard working and show keen interest in personal and professional development.  A team player, this person must display a strong commitment to the culinary arts and community. Persons in this category will compete in a cook-off.

YOUNG CHEF OF THE YEAR WINNER – AALIYAH GREENE (BLUE WATERS RESORT & SPA)

Category 6: CHEF OF THE YEAR

This category is open to Hotel and Associate Members. A culinary professional who is employed as an Executive Chef, Sous Chef, Chef de Partie or Pastry Chef, etc., who has served in the industry for at least 5 years, one of those years spent in his/her current position.  The nominee should display remarkable dedication to mentoring aspiring culinary professionals.  This chef must have strong proven proficiency and expertise in his field and commitment to acquiring new skills, techniques and knowledge.  Excellent communication skills necessary.  Good relations with his/her staff is also key.  Must provide evidence of commitment to the culinary arts and community service.  International exposure an asset. Persons in this category compete in a cook-off.

This award is presented to the individual or organization who has made a highly significant contribution to the Hospitality Industry in Antigua and Barbuda. The award is based on significant, long-term contributions to the industry and/or the ABHTA.
